What to Do in Cali While Visiting for Dental Treatment

Are you a tourist coming to Cali for dental treatment and looking for things to do in the city? We've created this blog to help you enjoy your stay and make the most of your time in Cali.

While Cali is famous as the Salsa Capital, it's important to note that salsa didn't originate here; it arrived in the 1970s, making Cali known worldwide for its unique Salsa Caleña dance style. If you're into Latino culture, salsa, and lively nightlife, Cali has plenty to offer.

However, Cali isn't just about salsa. Here are four other significant reasons why Cali is renowned worldwide:

Bird Watching and Nature

Foto de intriper: Qué hacer en Santiago de Cali: Visitar el Cerro de Cristo Rey

Situated amidst the Pacific forest and the Andean mountains, Cali enjoys a privileged location in a beautiful valley with fantastic summer weather. What makes Cali truly special is its proximity to diverse natural landscapes. Within an hour from the city, you can find yourself in the mountains, exploring the lush Pacific jungle, or experiencing the unique Paramo ecosystem, found only in the high Andean mountains.

Cali is internationally acclaimed among birdwatchers, drawn to its status as one of the most biodiverse areas globally, particularly for bird species. One popular spot for birdwatching is Kilometer 18, on the way to Buenaventura on the Pacific coast. Situated nearly 2,000 meters above sea level, this location offers a refreshing climate, perfect for immersing yourself in nature.

Whether through agencies or direct arrangements, there are ample opportunities to explore the rivers and stunning jungle landscapes near the city. Check out TripAdvisor for the best birdwatching spots and nature tours in and around Cali.

If you like hiking, you can go to the Cerro de las Tres Cruces. It's located very close to our clinic, and it's a 1-2 hour walk. From there, you can get an amazing view of the city.

Food

Cali is the capital of the Pacific Coast in Colombia and is also the most populated city in the south of the country, mixing two different cultures: the Pacific and the Andean. This combination offers a lot of amazing things, but one of the best is the food.

Talking about local food, here are the must-tries in Cali:

A savory delight made from ripe plantains that are mashed and filled with crispy pork cracklings (chicharrón). These are then shaped into balls and deep-fried to golden perfection. Marranitas offer a delicious combination of sweet plantain and salty, crunchy pork.

Empanadas Vallunas
A classic snack or meal, these empanadas are made with a cornmeal dough and stuffed with a savory filling of seasoned meat, potatoes, and sometimes rice. They are deep-fried until crispy and golden, often served with aji, a spicy dipping sauce.

Champús
A traditional beverage made from a unique combination of corn, pineapple, lulo (a tropical fruit), panela (unrefined cane sugar), and spices like cinnamon and cloves. This thick, sweet, and tangy drink is often enjoyed during festive occasions and is beloved for its rich flavor and comforting warmth.
